Civil engineering represents a crucial discipline that plays a critical role in shaping the physical infrastructure underpinning our world. Civil engineers are responsible for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of the essential structures that support our daily lives, from the roads and bridges we use for transportation to the buildings and structures that provide shelter and workspace. It is one of the oldest and most vital branches of engineering. It deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure like roads, bridges, buildings,
dams, canals, and more. In simple words, civil engineers are the builders of our society. Our Bhanubhakta School offers a civil engineering program for grades 9-12, focusing on foundational knowledge and practical skills relevant to the field. The curriculum includes surveying, construction technology, building design, and drawing techniques. Students will learn about various aspects of civil engineering, such as building components, temporary construction, and earthquake-resistant designs.
Objectives
1. Provide Basic Technical Skills:
Equip students with fundamental engineering skills in fields like civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering. Prepare them to work as junior technicians or sub-overseers after Grade 12.
2. Promote Employment and Self-Reliance:
Enable students to enter the job market directly after completing school-level technical education. Encourage self-employment through practical training and entrepreneurship skills.
3. Bridge Education and Industry:
Connect school education with real-world technical demands. Foster collaboration between schools, industries, and communities.
4. Reduce Youth Unemployment:
Provide skill-based alternatives to general education, especially for rural and economically disadvantaged students. Contribute to reducing school dropout rates by offering job-oriented courses.
5. Support National Development:
Produce skilled manpower required for Nepal’s infrastructure development (e.g., roads, buildings, water supply).Contribute to the country’s socio-economic growth through vocational education.
6. Encourage Lifelong Learning and Further Education:
Provide a foundation for further study in bachelor-level engineering programs. Motivate students to pursue continuous skill upgrading and technical learning.
7. Promote Gender and Social Inclusion:
Ensure equal access to technical education for girls and marginalized communities. Support inclusive and equitable development through education.
In a 9-12 civil engineering program, the main objectives are to equip students with foundational knowledge and skills in civil engineering principles, design, and construction practices, as well as to prepare them for further studies or careers in the field. Key areas of focus include building construction, surveying, estimating, construction technology, and an introduction to computer-aided design (CAD).
The program also aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for entry level positions as technicians in the civil engineering field. The program aims to create an understanding of the importance of civil engineering in society and its contribution to infrastructure development. Unlike general education, which is often limited to academic knowledge, technical education focuses on hands-on experience. It enhances creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Moreover, technical graduates are in high demand both in national and international job markets. Technical education also supports innovation and infrastructure development, which are key to a country’s progress. By producing competent professionals, it contributes directly to economic growth and sustainable development. Here in our school, we are fortunate to learn about civil engineering from the school level. With practical knowledge of surveying, drawing, construction, and materials, we are not just studying – we are preparing to build the future of our nation.
